The verb es̄ēru, which is the root of the word mīšarum, means primarily to proceed along a straight path,28 a concept which accords with the conception of justice and equity as a path upon which one should travel. The Akkadian term andurārum/durārum = “liberty” likewise means to proceed without obstruction (cf. below, p. 160). The same
